Accompanied by David Bromfield, Senior Education Advisor of Southwark Council, Mr. Situ was warmly received at the Victor Attah International Airport by Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebet, and the counterpart in the Ministry of Information, Ini Ememobong.

According to a statement shared on Facebook by Mr. Ememobong, the Mayor is scheduled to attend the meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association, Uyo Branch, before participating in various events. Additionally, David Bromfield is set to engage in a policy session with education administrators and conduct a skills-sharing session with principals from public secondary schools.

Last month, the Akwa Ibom government screened 271 students in Uyo for the proposed UK education exchange program, selecting the top three students from each school. These students, currently in senior secondary two, were chosen by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Etiebet.

The UK Education Exchange Program aligns with the Governor’s commitment to enhancing the state’s education system. James Edet, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, emphasized that this program fulfills the Governor’s promise to create opportunities for participants to experience and adopt global best practices, benefiting both the education system and bright students from rural areas.

Governor Umo Eno, during his gubernatorial campaign, pledged to revitalize public education, and this initiative reflects a step towards fulfilling that commitment.
